Why switch to CGM?

The most obvious benefit is the elimination of numerous finger sticks. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had this disease; sticking your fingers is never going to be fun, but we can cut it down to a minimum. CGM is proven to help you spend more time within range and significantly lower your A1C, which measures your average blood sugar level over the past three months. Tracking your levels over time with a continuous monitor allows you to identify trends in your blood sugar that can help you control it more effectively. These systems notify you of your lows and highs throughout the day, even while you’re sleeping. Watch how different foods, physical activities, and medications affect your blood sugar, and build a customized care routine for your health and longevity. Don’t forget to easily share your data with your primary care physician.

FAQ

These systems are accurate and approved by the FDA, same as the finger-sticking systems. Confirm with a finger stick if your reading is unusually high or low or you’re having symptoms that don’t seem to match your reading.
The applicator and sensor automatically place a small filament under the skin. The sensor is then held in place with adhesive and measures glucose readings from the interstitial fluid that surrounds the cells. Readings that are taken constantly throughout the day and night are sent to a display receiver, smartphone, or another smart device.
The individual systems will specify how long their sensors can be used. Some sensors are ten days, and some are 14.

To use insurance for your CGM system, you must:

  • Be treated with insulin OR have a history of problematic hypoglycemia
  • Be seen by your doctor at least every 6 months

If you don’t qualify for insurance coverage, you can still pay for your CGM out of pocket with a prescription.

You can, but it won’t be covered by insurance. CGM was designed to help regulate insulin. You’ll have to get a prescription, so we recommend discussing this option with your provider.
Many type 2 diabetics use CGM systems, but you have to meet the same requirements for insurance coverage.
Yes, your physician must provide a prescription to utilize this product. Why are there restrictions? Wouldn’t this benefit everyone? Requirements are created and enforced by insurance companies and the FDA.

If you meet the requirements, Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurances cover or partially cover the cost of CGM supplies. There are many variables. Call 1-800-310-2568 for a free benefits check.

The typical processing period before shipping is three to five business days. It can take up to 21 days. This usually happens when we don’t receive the prescription from the doctor, information is missing, or we don’t receive authorization from the insurance provider. Contacting your physician to advise them that we are sending a documentation request can help expedite the process.
We offer FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring systems.
FreeStyle Libre 2 and Dexcom G6 both link to their respective smartphone apps.
CGM eliminates the need for finger sticks for testing except in cases where confirmation is needed for high or low readings or if symptoms don’t match the reading.
Follow the manufacturer’s application instructions and cover the sensor with a CGM adhesive patch for the best staying power.
Baby oil or mineral oil will help break down the adhesive and remove the sensor and patch. Be sure to check manufacturer instructions before removing sensors or patches.
